About the Role
As a Clinical Typist, you will be a highly organised confident typist, with strong administration skills, and excellent typing and transcription skills that include a high degree of accuracy. Strong computer literacy and the ability to work autonomously, are essential in this role.
You would be joining a large Clinical Typing team, working in a fast paced and complex healthcare environment, where an understanding of medical terminology will be helpful. Previous experience within a healthcare setting will therefore be ideal, however training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately transcribe and format clinical correspondence, reports, and documentation.
- Ensure a high standard of accuracy when working with medical terminology and patient information.
- Manage and prioritise workload to meet deadlines in a busy healthcare setting.
- Utilise hospital management systems and other computer applications effectively.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.
- Work autonomously while demonstrating initiative and sound judgement.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and clinicians as part of a large multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to a positive team environment through strong communication and teamwork.

About the Service
You would be joining a dedicated team of highly skilled Clinical Typists and Transcriptionists, and play a crucial role in supporting our District operations, through accurately documenting patient information, aiding in patient care and medical research.
Our Clinical Typing team is based at the Waiora building in the Hamilton CBD, and the role requires you to work in the office for at least a six month period. During the 6 to 12 month point in your role, your Manager will further assess any potential hybrid or flexible work arrangements that may be available to you.

About you
To be considered for this role, you will need to be able to demonstrate the following skills, experience and attributes:
- Good communication skills, high attention to detail and a fresh and positive attitude
- Competent typing skills
- A good understanding of medical terminology
- Previous medical typing experience would be a definite advantage
- Sound knowledge of English, including spelling and grammar
- Knowledge of office systems including digital dictation systems
- Accurate entry of confidential medical information
- Excellent time management skills
- Adaptability, versatility and the ability to cope with change and meet new challenges
- Willingness to work as a team member
- Knowledge and understanding of Treaty of Waitangi.
- Competency with te ao Māori, Tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Experience in upholding Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
