Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Pain Specialist / Senior Medical Officer with experience in Pain Medicine to join our Chronic Pain Service.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a friendly, experienced and collaborative multidisciplinary team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred pain care across South Auckland.

About the Role

The Chronic Pain Service is part of the Department of Anaesthetics and Pain Medicine and provides specialist assessment and management for patients living with chronic and complex pain.

The successful applicant will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of specialist clinicians from medical, nursing and allied health backgrounds, including Anaesthesia, Psychiatry, Musculoskeletal Medicine, Gynaecology, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Psychology.

Our team works with patients and their whānau within a biopsychosocial framework, providing:

• Comprehensive multidisciplinary pain assessments
• Individualised treatment and management plans
• Pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management
• Group pain management programmes
• Ongoing education and support for patients and whānau
• Collaboration with primary care, hospital services and community providers

The service is primarily based at the Manukau Super Clinic, with opportunities to work across other relevant clinical settings, including our inpatient complex pain team for candidates with suitable inpatient pain management experience.

This is a part-time opportunity of approximately 20 hours per fortnight, with the potential for the role to be split into two positions for the right candidates.

• Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine
• Psychiatry
• Musculoskeletal Medicine
• Gynaecology
• Nursing
• Physiotherapy
• Psychology

About You

We are looking for a Pain Specialist or Senior Medical Officer who is passionate about pain medicine and enjoys working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.

You will ideally have:

• A primary specialist medical qualification in a relevant specialty such as Anaesthesia, Medicine, Surgery, General Practice, Psychiatry or Rehabilitation
• FFPMANZCA or equivalent qualification is preferred
• Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
• A current Annual Practising Certificate
• Experience or training in chronic and/or complex pain management
• Knowledge of contemporary pharmacological approaches to pain management
• Familiarity with non-pharmacological approaches and multidisciplinary pain programmes
• Strong communication, assessment and clinical decision-making skills
• A collaborative and patient-centred approach to care

Preference will be given to candidates with current or recent experience working within a specialist pain service. Experience in inpatient complex pain management would also be advantageous for those interested in working across the inpatient service.
