We are seeking an exceptional Charge Nurse Manager (CNM) to lead Cardiothoracic Operating Rooms within our Level 4 Theatre at Auckland City Hospital- the largest and most advanced cardiothoracic surgical service in the country.
As CNM, you will provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership to a highly specialised nursing team delivering:
- Adult and paediatric cardiothoracic surgery
- Complex congenital cardiac procedures
- Heart and lung transplantation, and 24/7 organ retrieval services
- Acute and elective cardiothoracic surgery
- Hybrid and interventional procedures in a world-class Hybrid OR
This is a senior leadership position where you will shape service delivery, workforce capability, and patient outcomes across a high-demand, high-performance environment.
You will lead with clarity, presence, and credibility - balancing operational excellence with compassionate leadership.
What youll be responsible for:
- Leading and developing a high-performing nursing team across cardiothoracic theatres
- Providing visible, values-driven leadership in a complex surgical environment
- Driving clinical excellence, patient safety, and continuous quality improvement
- Operational management, including rostering, capacity planning, and resource optimisation
- Building a cohesive, resilient team culture grounded in professionalism and accountability
- Coaching and mentoring nurses across all levels to achieve advanced clinical practice
- Partnering with surgeons, anaesthetists, perfusionists, senior colleagues, and wider teams to deliver seamless care
- Contributing to service innovation, workforce strategy, and system improvement

About you
You are an experienced and credible perioperative leader who brings:
- Clinical qualification: RN, BHSc (Nursing), Diploma in Applied Science Anaesthetic Technology, or similar.
- Extensive cardiothoracic operating room experience at an expert level
- Proven ability in leading and managing teams in high-acuity environments
- Strong clinical credibility and decision-making capability
- Demonstrated experience in rostering, workforce planning, and operational management
- A passion for supporting and developing people, building capability, and driving high standards of care
- The ability to lead with influence, clarity, and integrity across multidisciplinary teams
- A commitment to equity, patient-centred care, and continuous improvement
- A Masters degree (or working towards) is highly desirable.
