About the Role
The Public Health Physician within the Equity, Scientific and Technical team, Health Gain Development, in Planning, Funding and Outcomes, is a national role, with a specific focus on addressing the life expectancy gap between Māori and non-Māori, between Pacific and non-Pacific, and other key population groups.
You will offer clinical leadership and expert advice in the development of robust implementation science research. This will include delivery of Te Tiriti-focused and critical thinking expertise to shape, implement and meaningfully measure quality research projects. Your focus will be on understanding the clinical, policy, and community landscapes in which decisions are made across New Zealand.
Your responsibilities will encompass supporting an evidence-based whole of system approach to improve population health and achieve equitable outcomes. Ideally you will be able to apply your robust understanding of equity to the programmes and research across the Health Gain Development team, to challenge and improve current practice. This ensures that healthcare provision effectively meets population needs, promoting health gain and equity.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Equity, Scientific and Technical team is made up of a group of diverse people working across Aotearoa. We are multi-disciplinary, with public health physicians, research fellows, epidemiologists, data analysts and kaupapa Māori researchers.
About you
You hold a Medical Degree and a postgraduate vocational qualification in Public Health Medicine. You are a Fellow of a Public Health Medicine College, hold vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, with a current Annual Practising Certificate. You actively engage in a Continuing Professional Development program relevant to Public Health Medicine.
You will have:
- The ability to establish and nurture effective internal and external relationships and partnerships, including the ability to foster collaboration across sectors and organisations
- Strategic thinking capabilities and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for health gain and equity within the health sector.
- Public Health expertise that will drive critical appraisal of a range of current evidence, practices and models of care to influence and support delivery of large programmes of work and quality research projects.
- Strong analytical, writing, and epidemiological skills.
