Bowel Screening Coordinator – Age Extension: Whanganui Hospital: Fixed Term (until end of April 2027) 0.8 FTE
- This is an important role coordinating activity relating to the extension of the eligible age range for the National Bowel Screening Programme (NBSP) in the Whanganui district, to include people aged 58 and 59 years.

About the Role
The Bowel Screening Coordinator – Age Extension role plays a central role in coordinating NBSP activity relating to the extension of the eligible age range in the Whanganui district, to include people aged 58 and 5 years. You will coordinate and lead work to advise newly eligible participants about the programme and encourage participation. A core component of the role is working with stakeholders to undertake promotional activity and coordination of the pre-reach and outreach programme for priority participants.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Whanganui Hospital serves a semi‑rural population of approximately 68,395 across Whanganui, Rangitīkei, and South Ruapehu. Our community has a high proportion of Māori (27.3%) and growing Pacific and Asian populations. We are committed to ensuring equitable access to screening services and strengthening connections with our communities.
You will work closely with the Bowel Screening Coordintaor, Bowel Screening Clinical Lead, Lead Endoscopy Nurse, Clinical Nurse Manager Theatre Services, and a wide network of internal and external partners including primary care, MedLab, Radiology, Māori Health Providers, and National NBSP Leads.
The community we provide care to is semi-rural – rural with Māori making up 27.3% of our population (compared to the New Zealand average of 16.6%) and small but growing populations of Pacific and Asian people.

About you
You will bring strong coordination and administration experience, excellent organisational skills, and confidence working with data, reporting, and information systems. You will have highly developed communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships across clinical, community, and national stakeholders. You will have the confidence to promote the programme to eligible participants in the community. Experience working with Māori and Pacific communities is an advantage, as is a strong commitment to equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action. Attention to detail, cultural competence, and a values‑based approach are essential.
