This is a dynamic role offering a broad range of clinical presentations, opportunities for clinical leadership and service development, and the chance to provide care where it is most needed including in people's homes and community settings.
About the role
Our Intake & Assessment (I&A) service is the single point of entry to specialist mental health services across Counties Manukau. We provide initial assessment and brief interventions for people experiencing mental health crisis, both in the community and at Middlemore Hospital Emergency Department.
You'll work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and cultural workers, with opportunities to provide care across a range of community and clinical settings.

Our wider ACS service also includes Home-Based Treatment (HBT), providing acute mental health care in people's homes and community respite settings.

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you'll be supported to develop your leadership skills, contribute your ideas and help shape the future of acute community mental health services across Counties Manukau.
About you
We're looking for a psychiatrist who is passionate about acute mental health care and enjoys working collaboratively in a fast-paced community environment.
You'll bring:
Excellent communication and organisational skills
A strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary practice
The ability to navigate complex clinical presentations with confidence and compassion
A genuine commitment to equitable and culturally safe healthcare
The ability and willingness to provide clinical leadership within an acute community setting
Experience in acute or crisis psychiatry is desirable, but not essential
Experience supervising psychiatry registrars is desirable, but not essential we also welcome those who are keen to develop this aspect of their practice
