General Practice Liaison Officer

About the Role
An opportunity has become available to appoint a permanent General Practice Liaison (GPL) within Te Whatu Ora - Bay of Plenty based in the Western Bay of Plenty.
This position provides a link between Te Whatu Ora provided services and general practices. The General Practice Liaison will join two other GPLs, one based in Tauranga and one based in Whakatāne.
The successful candidate will be a practicing Specialist General Practitioner working in the Western Bay of Plenty. You will possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail and may have experience in quality improvement.
The position is permanent at three tenths per week.
The successful candidate should be a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners and will be employed under the Senior Medical Officers MECA. The length of time vocationally registered will determine the step on the MECA pay scale.

About the Team/Service/Location
Our team within the Medical Directorate at Te Whatu Ora Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty works across primary and secondary care to support innovation, service redesign, and integrated models of care. The service plays a key role in improving quality, equity, and value across the local health system, with a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and partnership with tangata whenua.
About you
As a General Practice Liaison, you will bring strong clinical credibility, relationship-building skills, and a systems-focused approach to improving healthcare delivery. You will be able to demonstrate:
- Registration with the New Zealand Medical Council and a current practising certificate
- Fellowship of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners
- Experience working as a General Practitioner in the Bay of Plenty, with a strong understanding of primary care contexts
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and engage, influence, and motivate clinicians and managers across organisational boundaries
- Experience providing clinical advice and contributing to service improvement, innovation, or integrated care initiatives
- Alignment with Te Whatu Ora Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty values, including a commitment to equity, cultural safety, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
