About the Role
As the Dispensary Coordinator - Senior Pharmacy Technician, youll play a pivotal role in the smooth, safe, and efficient delivery of hospital pharmacy services. This senior position provides daytoday leadership of the dispensary, overseeing medication procurement, dispensing, distribution, stock management, and technical workflows that support clinical teams across the hospital.
You will mentor and guide pharmacy technicians and assistants, support Pharmacists, coordinate rostering and work allocation, and ensure operational excellence in line with legislation, professional standards, and organisational priorities. This is a dynamic, problemsolving role where your leadership, technical expertise, and eye for detail will directly improve patient safety, service quality, and medication access for our hospital and wider Hawkes Bay community.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Youll join the Hospital Pharmacy team at Te Whatu Ora - Hawkes Bay, a collaborative group of Pharmacists, technicians, assistants, and clinical leaders who work together to deliver highquality, patientcentred medication services. The team supports inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, aseptic services, community providers, and regional partners.
Youll work closely with the Pharmacy Manager, Clinical Pharmacists, Aseptic Services, Medicines Management and Quality teams, and external stakeholders such as community pharmacies, PHO partners, suppliers, and the Ministry of Health. About you
Youll be an experienced, confident, and organised Senior Pharmacy Technician who is ready to step into (or continue thriving in) a leadership role. You will bring:
- A National Certificate in Pharmacy (Technician) Level 5 or above.
- Strong understanding of the NZ pharmacy sector, relevant legislation, PHARMAC processes, and medicines management principles.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including mentoring or supervising others.
- Excellent organisational skills, accuracy, and the ability to prioritise in a busy operational environment.
- Confident communication skills and a collaborative, solutionsfocused mindset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort learning IT systems.
- A commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and Te Tiritibased practice.
- Physical capacity to meet the role requirements (manual handling, kneeling, lifting, etc.).
Desirable:
- Hospital pharmacy experience.
- PACT qualification.
- Familiarity with ePharmacy and basic accounting skills.
- Previous management experience in pharmacy or another operational setting.
