Infectious Diseases and General Medical Physician

About the Role
We are needing to recruit to an Infectious Diseases and General Physician fixed term role whilst we await the arrival of an international recruit. This role works within the Department of Medicine based at Tauranga Hospital, providing acute internal medicine inpatient and sub-specialist Infectious Disease outpatient services. Tauranga Hospital is a 359-bed hospital which provides acute general medical service with support from resident specialists in Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases, Geriatric medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Haematology and Renal services. This role participates in planned care delivery in Infectious Diseases at both Tauranga Hospital and Whakatane Hospital, which is a smaller level 2 hospital south of Tauranga. Future planning will also provide opportunities to take care closer to patients with satellite clinics across the district.
The successful candidate will join a department of Physicians who share acute medical admission and patient management responsibilities. The role includes participation in acute medical on call roster and responsibility for leading a team which includes a registrar and house officer. The service roster is designed so that SMOs have time on and off acute roster to allocate time for participation in subspecialty planned care. Subspecialty responsibilities include clinics, consultations across other specialities and providing telephone advice to primary care clinicians. There are teaching opportunities across undergraduate (years 4-6) and postgraduate (basic and advanced trainees) medicine.
About You
Candidates with General Medicine and Infectious Diseases qualifications and experience are welcome. Due to the flexible nature of the vacancy, trainees completing training within the next six months are also invited to apply.
Applicants must hold or be eligible for, vocational registration with the NZ Medical Council.
