About the Role:
The Canterbury Eye Service at Christchurch Hospital provides acute and elective services at a secondary and tertiary level to the people of Canterbury and Westland and provides tertiary level services to the South Island and quaternary level to people of New Zealand.
Ophthalmology is a rewarding specialty with its mix of patients from the very young to the elderly. We service a large pool of patients and with that comes, high volume clinics supported by a large team of 80 committed staff.
As part of the Administration and Clerical Pay Equity Claim settlement this role has been mapped to National Band 4/Profile 4 Step 1 to 3 (final placement step is dependent on skills, knowledge and experience)

In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Carrying out work to Te Whatu Ora Health NZ Waitaha Canterbury standards (and Ministry of Health targets) for booking practices
- Ensuring Ministry of Health Guidelines are followed
- Managing patient referrals and reports
- Coordinating appointments
- Ensuring all information is collated, patient records are complete and managed
- Providing excellent customer service
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy
- Various administration tasks and support in other administrative areas when required
About you
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Excellent customer service skills - people focused
- Technically savvy ' experience with data systems and quick at picking up new applications/systems
- Excellent organisational, time management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to achieve high levels of accuracy
- Maintain attention to detail
- Ability to meet deadlines and work unsupervised
- Ability to manage and coordinate a range of different inputs to achieve the agreed outputs
- A team player
- Intermediate to advanced user in the Microsoft suite of products e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel
- Excellent keyboard skills
- High level of written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated perceptiveness and a proactive approach in an administrator role.
Desired:
- Broad administrative experience in a health-related field
- Awareness of people of differing cultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of medical terminology beneficial
- Familiarity with the public hospital system (including the patient management system)
