About the Role
We are seeking a Paediatric Surgeon to join our dedicated team at Waikato Hospital, serving children and families across the Waikato and wider Midland Region.
In this role, you will take part in the oncall roster, provide paediatric surgical outpatient care, and work on theatre lists both onsite and at our regional centres and private facilities if required. Youll be joining a service that places equity, excellence in paediatric surgical care, and strong teambased practice at the heart of everything we do. Teaching and training junior doctors is also a core part of our mission.

About the Team / Service

We serve a population of 400,000 people, including 82,000 children under 15, and provide paediatric surgical care across the entire Midland Region. Our team includes four Paediatric Surgeons, one Medical Officer, and four registrars, supported by a comprehensive tertiary Paediatric Medical Service, Intensive Care (nonspecialist paediatric), and a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. We are also part of the Midland Trauma Service Waikato is one of the busiest trauma centres in the country and the only Level 1 accredited trauma centre in New Zealand.
Teaching and training are central to who we are. We have an excellent reputation for supporting undergraduate medical students and paediatric surgical trainees, including accreditation for one early SET trainee. For those with research interests, we offer strong oncampus support through the University of Aucklands Waikato Clinical School and the Clinical Audit Support Unit.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will bring:
Vocational registration in Paediatric Surgery
Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
A current practising certificate with no significant restrictions on practice
Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
