About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Rural Community Registered Nurse (District Nurse) to join our Integrated Care Team in Wairoa. In this role, you will provide comprehensive, personcentred nursing care to patients referred for community support, working alongside whānau to deliver safe, effective and culturally appropriate care.
This role includes completing holistic assessments, developing and evaluating care plans, delivering specialist nursing interventions, and supporting patients to manage their health at home. Responsibilities may involve palliative care, frailty support, urgent callouts, wound care, catheter management, and other tasks requiring advanced clinical judgement.
As part of a small rural hospital, you may also be required at times to assist across other clinical areas including ED, inpatient wards, maternity and outpatient services. You will practise autonomously and collaboratively, using your knowledge and critical thinking to support safe, seamless care for the Wairoa community.

About the Team/Service/ Location
Youll join a closeknit, highly committed Rural Community Services team based at Wairoa Health Centre. The team includes nurses, allied health professionals, medical staff, Māori health services, and support teams who work collaboratively to meet the unique needs of rural communities.
You will also work closely with external partners such as St John, the Air Ambulance service, primary and NGO providers, rural health teams, and regional services. The team culture is grounded in whanaungatanga, cultural safety, adaptability and strong interprofessional relationships - ensuring patients and whānau experience a smooth, coordinated health journey.

About you
You are a confident and adaptable Registered Nurse with excellent clinical judgement and a passion for providing care in a rural community setting. You thrive on autonomy, variety and meaningful connection with patients and their whānau.
You will have:
- Current NZ Nursing Council registration and APC
- Experience applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
- Strong assessment, planning and criticalthinking skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
- Effective communication, timemanagement and organisational skills
- Commitment to culturally safe, equitable and whānaucentred care
- A positive, proactive approach and strong professional accountability
Desired:
- A PDRP portfolio
- Rural or community nursing experience
- Full NZ drivers licence (unendorsed)
You will also bring selfawareness, resilience, compassion and a willingness to support patients across a wide range of clinical needs.
