Obstetrics and gynaecology roles in New Zealand
Obstetricians and Gynaecologists work in regional and tertiary hospitals. Clinical activities may include:
- Labour and birth care, including care for high-risk pregnancies and delivery management
- Antenatal and postnatal inpatient and outpatient care
- Diagnosis and treatment of gynaecological conditions
- Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings and care planning
- Colposcopy, fertility care, surgical gynaecology and emergency obstetric or gynaecological care

Salary, benefits and leave
Salary:
- The average salary package for Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in New Zealand is NZ $343,500.
- Packages are comprised of a base salary based on experience, plus allowances, and superannuation per the ASMS collective agreement.

What you need to work here
To practise as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in New Zealand, you must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate.
You will typically need an overseas qualification comparable to Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) and meet MCNZ requirements for vocational registration.
International Obstetricians and Gynaecologists may be granted provisional vocational registration initially and must complete a period of supervised practice prior to applying for full vocational registration.
