About the role
You will:
- join a close-knit team that consists of specialists, trainees, and those not yet on the training programme
- ensure the acute stream of patients are seen and assessed - enabling you to become confident with a wide variety of ophthalmic conditions, with extensive learning opportunities
- assist with some injections and gain time in our new purpose-built eye theatre, located off-site but nearby
- have the ability to extend your skills and knowledge base
- receive strong support for educational needs, including weekly teaching, case discussions, journal clubs, and peer review sessions.
The department has a strong academic presence. Opportunities for successful candidates are broad and include the ability to undertake research as part of training.

About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
- registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, or eligibility for general or provisional general registration (see MCNZ)
- a minimum of two years post-qualification experience, with an interest in RMO roles and a desire to further develop skills in Ophthalmology (registrar experience is required for entry into the training programme).
It is a requirement of the Medical Council of New Zealand that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you are committed to working in New Zealand, it is recommended you begin this process early to support timely registration.
