About the role
Southland Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated MRI-trained Medical Imaging Technologist to join our team.
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Medical Imaging Technologist to work across a broad range of imaging including neurological, abdominal and pelvic, and musculoskeletal MRI examinations.
The position involves working in a small, supportive team environment where collaboration and flexibility are essential. Our MRI service operates on a rostered shift system including evenings and weekends.
You will be working on a Philips Ingenia Ambition 1.5T MRI, providing high-quality imaging to support patient care. Our department is also a recognised MRI training site, offering opportunities to contribute to education and professional development within the team.
Key aspects of the role include the following:
- Performing a wide range of MRI examinations including neuro, abdominal/pelvic, and musculoskeletal imaging
- Participating in evening and weekend rosters
- Working collaboratively within a small multidisciplinary imaging team
- IV cannulation and administration of contrast as part of MRI procedures
- Supporting MRI education as part of our training programme
Essential requirements:
- Registration with an MRI Technologist scope of practice
- General X-ray scope of practice, as the role includes some participation in the X-ray service
- Competence in IV cannulation (or willingness to learn)
- Strong teamwork, communication, and patient-centred care skills

About you
To be successful in this position, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- MRI experience
- Experienced, approachable and professional with a team-based approach
- A natural affinity for relationship building with both patients and staff
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Current Annual Practicing Certificate and registration with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board
- Highly adaptable, motivated and efficient
You must have the ability to cover both the on-call and shift roster.
