The Central Region serves more than 1m New Zealanders in rural and urban communities in five districts: Wellington and Hutt Valley, Wairarapa, Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, and Whanganui.
With a $5b annual operating budget and 20,000 dedicated staff working across these districts, we are working to ensure resources are used efficiently to deliver better care, reduce waiting times, and support equity across communities. Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders.
About the role
At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, finance is about more than reporting numbers. It's about helping clinical and operational leaders make decisions that improve services and health outcomes for New Zealanders.
We're building a finance function that combines strong business partnering, technical excellence and emerging technologies to deliver greater insight and value. As artificial intelligence, automation and advanced analytics continue to evolve, we see exciting opportunities to enhance forecasting, modelling, reporting and decision support, allowing our people to focus on what matters most: partnering, influencing and creating impact.
You will provide technical leadership through expertise, influence and professional credibility, helping teams deliver:
- Coordinated and consolidated reporting, planning, forecasting and analysis across portfolios.
- Clear ownership of finance processes, deadlines and timeframes, acting as the recognised subject matter expert for the team.
- Monthly reporting, commentary, variance analysis and financial advice to support managers and clinical leaders.
- Quality financial information through peer review, coaching, knowledge sharing and consistent use of tools and templates.
- Financial modelling, scenario analysis and support for budgeting, forecasting, business cases and change initiatives as needed.
About you
We're looking for a Senior Management Accountant who wants to be part of that journey. Someone who enjoys solving complex problems, developing others, building trusted relationships and helping shape the future direction of finance within one of New Zealand's largest and most important organisations.
You will bring:
- A tertiary qualification in accounting, finance or a related discipline, with CAANZ membership, equivalent professional qualification, or progress toward one.
- Extensive experience in management accounting, financial analysis or finance business partnering, ideally in a complex multi-stakeholder environment.
- Strong financial modelling, analysis and problem-solving capability, with proven ability to coordinate planning and reporting processes, meet deadlines and support others to deliver quality outputs.
