Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.
We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations - from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.
Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.
The Northern Region
Northern employs over 35,000 highly skilled clinical and non-clinical professionals. As the largest region in Health New Zealand comprising four districts: Te Tai Tokerau | Northland, Waitematā, Te Toka Tumai | Auckland, and Counties Manukau it provides and funds health services for a population of approximately two million people or 40% of the NZ population.
What makes the region, and the work you will be involved in, interesting is its diversity. It includes NZ's largest city as well as a significant rural population and is the most ethnically diverse region. Some areas report among the highest life expectancy in the country, while others face persistent socioeconomic and health challenges. These include high rate of potentially preventable conditions, unmet health needs, and stark differences in service access.
About the Role
The primary purpose of the role is to provide programme leadership, coordination and implementation capability across an assigned portfolio of Northern Region clinical and service networks and related service improvement initiatives. The role translates agreed clinical and regional priorities into coordinated delivery, measurable outcomes and sustained improvement, working through established clinical, operational and governance arrangements.
The role works collaboratively with Network Clinical Leads, district clinical, operational and service leaders, Senior Responsible Officers and Regional Networks Analysts to support delivery of agreed priorities.
About you
You bring at least five years' experience in a large and complex health, public sector or similar service environment, with demonstrated experience leading or coordinating complex programmes, projects, service improvement and change initiatives to deliver measurable outcomes.
You build strong relationships and work collaboratively across clinical, operational and organisational boundaries to align priorities, coordinate delivery and support sustained improvement across regional networks. You are confident supporting governance processes and providing clear reporting, advice and recommendations to senior leaders, governance groups and executive forums.
You have a sound understanding of programme, project and change management methodologies, with the ability to navigate complexity, manage risks and dependencies, and translate strategic priorities into effective implementation and delivery.
