About the Role

As Principal Advisor-Asset Risk and Compliance, you will play a key national role in strengthening how Health New Zealand identifies, manages and learns from asset and infrastructure risks. Reporting to the Group Manager, National Asset Risk and Compliance, you will help drive a proactive and consistent approach to risk management across one of New Zealand's largest and most complex infrastructure portfolios.

This role focuses on turning asset failures, incidents, compliance issues and operational data into meaningful insights that support risk-based decision-making, continuous improvement and the prevention of repeat failures. You will work across a broad range of stakeholders to identify emerging risks, investigate significant events and develop practical lessons that improve asset operation, performance, safety and resilience.

You will provide clear, evidence-based advice to senior leaders and governance groups, helping ensure compliance obligations are understood, systemic issues are addressed and decision-makers have the information they need to make informed investment and risk management decisions.

About the Team/Service/Location

The IIG team are focused on delivering high impact infrastructure investments that support the transformation of New Zealand's health system.

Giving support, oversight and assurance across asset management, asset maintenace projects and programmes, the team understand that compliant,  safe, fit for purpose health facilities, sites and equipment are essential for a well-functioning health system that improves the health of all New Zealanders.

About you

You are a senior risk, compliance, engineering, facilities,or asset management professional who thrives in complex environments and enjoys solving problems that have organisation-wide impact.

You bring strong technical credibility and can confidently analyse incidents, identify patterns and uncover underlying cause. You are comfortable working with technical experts and senior leaders and have the ability to translate complex infrastructure risks into practical, clear and actionable advice.

You are naturally analytical and improvement-focused, with a proven ability to identify systemic issues, influence stakeholders and drive meaningful change. Your collaborative style enables you to build trusted relationships across geographically dispersed teams while maintaining a strong focus on organisational learning, resilience and risk reduction.

What you'll bring

• A relevant Engineering, Building Services , Facilities Management, Asset Management, Risk Management, Trades, Infrastructure Management or a related discipline.
• Significant experience in asset risk, infrastructure compliance, facilities or building services, engineering assurance or operational risk management within a complex environments.
• Strong understanding of New Zealand building compliance, health and safety and infrastructure regulatory requirements.
• Experience investigating asset or infrastructure incidents, failures or compliance issues and developing practical recommendations and lessons learned.
• Experience developing reports, risk insights and assurance documentation for senior leaders and governance groups.
• Proven ability to identify emerging risks, recurring issues and opportunities for continuous improvement and risk mitigation initiatives.
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and relationship management skills.
• Experience working across large, geographically dispersed or matrix organisations.
