Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.
About the Role
As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll play a key role in the strategic management and ongoing development of the FPIM Data Platform, ensuring data remains secure, reliable, and accessible for analytics and decision-making across Finance, Procurement, and Supply Chain functions. Working within the Data Analytics and Insights team, you'll help design and maintain a scalable data infrastructure that supports operational excellence and innovation across Health New Zealand.

You'll monitor platform performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement data governance frameworks that strengthen data integrity, compliance, and security. Alongside this, you'll collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and provide leadership and expertise across analytics and insights opportunities. Your work will directly support better business intelligence and more informed decision-making across the organisation.
About you
As an experienced Senior Data Engineer, you'll bring strong technical expertise, a problem-solving mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively across complex environments. You will also have:
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, or a related field.
- Strong experience with Snowflake, including architecture, SQL optimisation, data modelling, and security features.
- Hands-on experience with dbt, Python, Java, and cloud-based data platforms such as AWS.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
