About the Role
The National Clinical Leader is a senior clinical leadership role that strengthens the connection between clinical practice and national procurement, supply chain and health technology management. This influential position ensures PSC&HTM services are clinically informed, responsive, and deliver meaningful value for frontline care.
As part of both the Procurement, Supply Chain and Health Technology (PSC&HTM) Senior Leadership Team, you will provide clinical leadership, drive national consistency, and champion continuous improvement across a complex, large‑scale health system.
Key accountabilities include:
- Provide senior clinical oversight and leadership across PSC & HTM operations
- Act as a critical bridge between clinical advisors and executive leadership
- Strengthen and lead national clinical networks and engagement
- Embed clinical quality, safety, and governance into day‑to‑day operations
- Drive nationally consistent clinical product strategies
- Champion continuous improvement and service optimisation
- Enhance the agility and responsiveness of PSC & HTM to support frontline services
About the Team/Service
The Procurement, Supply Chain and Health Technology (PSC&HTM) team at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora are a national function with a vast and complex scope. They play a critical role in ensuring the availability, safety, and efficiency of clinical and non-clinical goods and services across the health system. Responsible for managing and influencing over $9 billion in annual spend, the team are central to delivering high-quality patient outcomes and standardising product usage across regions.
About you
You are a senior registered health professional with strong clinical credibility and system‑level leadership experience. You bring a clear interest in procurement, supply chain and health technology, and the ability to apply clinical insight across complex operational and strategic contexts. Values‑driven and collaborative, you demonstrate a genuine commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, communicate confidently at executive level, and navigate complexity to drive quality, consistency and continuous improvement across the public health system.
You will bring:
- A senior vocational medical registration and credibility as a practising senior doctor.
- Demonstrated leadership of clinicians, including responsibility for medical staff, professional standards, and clinical culture.
- Experience influencing models of care and service delivery, with direct connection to frontline clinical environments.
- An active interest in procurement, supply chain and/or health technology, with exposure to or experience providing clinical leadership in these areas
- A highly collaborative working style, with strengths in quality improvement, audit, continuous learning, and building trusted peer relationships across the system
