About the Role
The Clinical Engineering Technical Assistant ensures low‑risk medical equipment across the district is safe, reliable, and fit for purpose. The role supports maintenance delivery, service coordination, and consistent equipment management across clinical services.
Key responsibilities:
- Maintain low‑risk medical equipment through preventative and breakdown maintenance
- Complete quality assurance, performance testing, and acceptance testing of new equipment
- Maintain compliance and testing records
- Provide technical advice to equipment users
- Support daily workload coordination and prioritisation
- Work with contractors to ensure consistent equipment standards
- Contribute to continuous improvement and equipment reliability
About the Team/Service
The Procurement, Supply Chain and Health Technology (PSC&HTM) team at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora are a national function with a vast and complex scope. They play a critical role in ensuring the availability, safety, and efficiency of clinical and non-clinical goods and services across the health system. Responsible for managing and influencing over $9 billion in annual spend, the team are central to delivering high-quality patient outcomes and standardising product usage across regions.
About you
You are a technician or hands‑on professional with a background in electrical, mechanical, or biomedical technology. You may be a trade‑qualified professional transitioning into healthcare, or an experienced clinical engineering support worker. You value structured work, clear scope, and contributing to patient safety, and you can remain professional and work effectively within a team, even under pressure.
You will bring:
- Proven basic engineering aptitude and abilities to perform tasks as required by the role
- Registered (or eligible to register) as an Electrical Appliance Serviceperson (EAS) with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB), holding or working toward a Medical/Cardiac Protected Areas endorsement (A pass in the EWRB practical assessment and written examination is required within 12 months, with full registration achieved within 24 months of commencement.)
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage constructively with staff, contractors, and other stakeholders
- High attention to detail and a strong commitment to patient safety and regulatory compliance
- English language proficiency, with a minimum IELTS overall score of 6.0 and no individual band less than 5.5
- A current and full New Zealand driver licence
