About the Role
The Health and Safety Programme Business Partner provides senior advisory and operational leadership in the design and delivery of national health and safety programmes. Reporting to the National Programme Development and Delivery Manager, the role ensures programmes meet Health NZ's standards and legislative requirements, and are effectively implemented across regional and district levels.
This position is responsible for overseeing systems and processes related to national programmes, including risk management, performance monitoring, and reporting. The Business Partner works collaboratively with health and safety teams to ensure initiatives align with strategic priorities and support continuous improvement across the organisation.

The Health and Safety team plays a vital role in ensuring consistent, high-quality service across all district sites, shifts, and professional groups. Working remotely, team members collaborate to deliver effective and efficient health and safety support tailored to the unique needs of each area. This is a dynamic, purpose-driven team who are committed to maintaining safe environments and supporting services nationally.
About you
You bring up to 10 years of experience in health and safety delivery, with a strong track record of implementing strategic programmes, managing compliance, and influencing stakeholders—ideally within healthcare or similarly complex environments. Your expertise spans serious incident investigations, risk management, and coaching others in health and safety roles, all underpinned by a deep understanding of legislation including the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, ACC AEP, and ISO45001.
You're a confident communicator and strategic thinker, able to navigate ambiguity and change while maintaining focus on outcomes. Your ability to build strong relationships, provide expert advice, and contribute to business cases makes you a trusted partner across all levels of the organisation. You're committed to continuous improvement and bring a calm, collaborative approach to fostering a culture of care and excellence.
You also demonstrate a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Pae Ora principles, with cultural awareness and a commitment to equity. Your planning, analytical, and communication skills—combined with resilience and adaptability—position you to lead and support national programmes that make a meaningful impact.
