About the Role
Reporting to the National Health and Safety Programme Development and Delivery Manager, this role supports the day-to-day delivery of national health and safety programmes across Health New Zealand. Working under the guidance of the National Health and Safety Programme Business Partners, you will help ensure programme activities align with Health NZ's expectations and comply with relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
As a Health & Safety Programme Advisor, you'll contribute to the development and implementation of strategic and operational initiatives, supporting consistent delivery across regional and district teams. You'll take a collaborative approach, partnering with key stakeholders—including Occupational Health and local Health and Safety teams—to ensure programmes are responsive to operational needs and reflect Health NZ's values and behaviours.
This role is key to enabling the successful rollout of national programmes, providing technical and advisory support, and helping embed a culture of safety and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.
About the Team/Service/ Location

The Health and Safety team plays a vital role in ensuring consistent, high-quality service across all district sites, shifts, and professional groups. Working remotely with a designated regional focus, team members collaborate to deliver effective and efficient health and safety support tailored to the unique needs of each area. This is a dynamic, purpose-driven team who are committed to maintaining safe environments and supporting services nationally.
About you
You bring up to five years of health and safety delivery experience, ideally within the health sector or a similarly complex environment. You have a solid understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, ACC's Accredited Employer Programme, ISO45001, and associated regulations, and you're confident contributing to local implementation and compliance activities.
You're collaborative, adaptable, and skilled at supporting strategic and operational programme delivery. Your experience includes assisting with incident investigations, contributing to risk management, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. You're comfortable working in dynamic, sometimes ambiguous environments, and bring a calm, consistent approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
You're a clear and effective communicator who builds strong relationships with stakeholders, and demonstrate a commitment to Health NZ's values and behaviours. You understand the significance of Pae Ora and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and are open to learning and engaging with tikanga Māori. With a strong focus on teamwork, care, and excellence, you're ready to help shape and deliver impactful health and safety programmes across the organisation.
