About the Role
Reporting to the District Health and Safety Delivery Manager, the Health and Saftey Senior Advisor will support the day-to-day delivery of health and safety operations across your district. You'll provide expert advice, guidance, and subject matter expertise to ensure compliance with Health NZ's expectations, relevant legislation, and industry standards.
In this role, you'll contribute to the local implementation of national health and safety strategies and initiatives, working closely with District Operations Managers and Occupational Health Teams to embed best practice and support effective service delivery. You'll also play a key role in mentoring and developing Health and Safety Advisors, ensuring consistent application of Health NZ's standards, behaviours, and values across the district.

The Health and Safety team plays a vital role in ensuring consistent, high-quality service across all district sites, shifts, and professional groups. The Health and Safety team works within HealthNZ sites. Team members collaborate to deliver effective and efficient health and safety support tailored to the unique needs of each area. This is a dynamic, purpose-driven team who are committed to maintaining safe environments and supporting frontline services across the districts they operate in.
About you
You will bring 5–10 years of hands-on health and safety experience, including time spent in advisory or senior advisory roles within healthcare or similarly complex environments. With a strong working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, ACC AEP, and ISO 45001, you are confident in supporting local implementation and compliance.
Your expertise includes incident investigation, risk management, and the delivery of strategic and operational health and safety programmes. You're a capable coach and mentor, with experience supporting the development of other health and safety professionals. Known for your calm and collaborative approach, you thrive in complex and changing environments, using your strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to influence outcomes and build trusted relationships.
Youwill be able to clearly demonstrate a commitment to equity, cultural safety, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022. Your ability to lead safety culture, engage stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement makes you a valued partner in delivering safe and effective services.
