About New Zealand Blood Service
New Zealand Blood Service (NZBS) is the statutory entity charged with the national responsibility of providing blood, blood products, tissues and services to the people of New Zealand, and have acted successfully in this essential service capacity since establishment as a national service in 1998.
Every year, around 29,000 New Zealanders receive blood and blood products. The provision of these lifesaving treatments would simply not be possible without the support of our voluntary blood donors across the country.
NZBS is a high performing and strong organisation with enviable blood and transfusion medicine expertise. Our responsibilities have expanded greatly since our formation and go beyond blood and blood products into tissues and cellular therapies, therapeutic services and from 30 November, organ donation.
